Corona. A single catastrophe.
Not only have the Alpha and Delta waves claimed many lives and continue to cause serious complications for some people ("Long COVID"). Unfortunately a natural disaster. But the media circus surrounding it is also shredding our collective psyche. Emotions are overheated, perhaps even numb or traumatized.
One wonders how many human lives this media frenzy has actually claimed. Since day one, we've been bombarded with questionable reporting that mauls the psyche. This has been going on for years now. Unbelievable. A way out? Not in sight. Especially since it seems unwanted. Health authorities continue to warn us of another harsh winter—with classic arguments: hospitalization numbers would rise again.
What gets hidden is the context. Context matters enormously. It's constantly obscured. Why? Obscuring context is the tool of brainwashing. That's why people are locked in dark dungeons. That's why cults isolate themselves. That's why information sources are massively restricted. All torture methods aim to deprive the brain of the ability to compare with reality.
Result: Panic. Feeling lost. "Brainwashing." A suppressed immune system due to stress. And exactly on this basis we stumble through winter and everything is endured. One should be prepared. Fortunately, the current Omicron variant remains significantly milder than Delta. Omicron actually had nothing to do with the clinical picture of the original COVID (= severe pneumonia). Still doesn't. But it's always good to know how to help yourself.
Enter Lactoferrin
Lactoferrin is a small protein that makes breast milk so sacred. Breast milk is a true miracle remedy of nature. Every mother knows: you can apply it to anything—wounds, for example. The reason is that lactoferrin basically kills everything. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and in laboratory tests even tumor cells. It's a protein with incredible power and potency. That's why it's also a natural component of our body secretions. It's supposed to protect us from pathogens.
One study got our attention. Researchers searched for already FDA-approved drugs and active ingredients that help against coronavirus. Of the 1,400 drugs and natural substances already approved by the FDA in the US, the researchers found that "lactoferrin has remarkable efficacy in preventing infections and works better than anything else we've observed." By the way, also better than the well-known anti-COVID drug remdesivir.
In the study database, you can find impressive results on lactoferrin in relation to COVID. Example: They gave 1–5 capsules of Lf at 200 mg each to sick COVID patients, with the result that instead of 24 days it took only 15 days until PCR negativity (study). While conventional treatment shortens COVID duration by about 15%, liposomal lactoferrin actually halves the time to PCR negativity compared to untreated COVID patients (study). Unbelievable! A small protein.
It's speculated that lactoferrin interacts with the viral membrane and breaks it down this way. Alternatively, it was found that lactoferrin binds to specific surface structures of our cells and thereby prevents coronavirus from entering the cells. And finally, studies show that lactoferrin can stimulate the body's own immune defenses.
Whey Protein: Your Best Lactoferrin Source
Perhaps the best lactoferrin source we have is whey protein. After meat, possibly the most valuable protein overall. Of course it doesn't consist of just one protein, but of several protein fractions, including lactoferrin. Classically with a content between 0.5 and 2% in whey isolate. That means if you drink 50 g of whey protein a day, you automatically get 250 mg to 1 g of lactoferrin.
Incidentally, human milk has a much higher whey and lactoferrin content compared to cow's milk (1–3 mg/ml in human milk vs. 0.1–0.5 mg/ml in cow's milk). In studies, however, cow's milk lactoferrin is more potent.
Definitely an enrichment. But that's not all. Whey itself is a weapon against coronavirus. The fractions contained in whey inhibit the coronavirus in the following ways (see this study):
- In cell tests, lysozyme can act antivirally against coronavirus.
- Beta-lactoglobulin interacts with the spike protein and inhibits an endogenous protein that is essential for viral entry into cells.
- Lactoperoxidase produces hypothiocyanite, a substance toxic to viruses and bacteria.
Plus: You can assume that the immunoglobulins contained in whey—known to us as antibodies—also contain coronavirus antibodies that cross-react with SARS-CoV-2. As a reminder: cow's milk naturally contains antibodies against coronaviruses. Though not specifically against SARS-CoV-2.
Practical Recommendations
So concretely: Either you keep whey protein at home. At the latest come autumn. Or you buy isolated lactoferrin—in case of whey intolerance. With it you have a guaranteed magic remedy in your medicine cabinet that will protect you better than most government-mandated measures.
That leaves only one thing to say: Yes, the immune system can be significantly strengthened. Through the right food.
