"Weight Loss à la Hollywood" — that's how BILD proudly reported in 2010 on the "diet secrets" of celebrities.
And there they revealed it: the protein principle.
With "Heidi," for example, it was "protein from several hard-boiled eggs, lean, steamed fish and poultry, salad, and vegetables."
Even today, it apparently remains a mystery, as so many people continue searching for the holy grail of diet programs to start the new year with optimistic resolutions.
We know how it ends: the search doesn't conclude even in December 2024. ;-)
Why? Because many people still haven't understood that almost every diet is based on a simple principle: we must burn body fat.
As it turns out, this only works with a negative fat — i.e., energy balance. The easiest way to achieve this is with what we call Lean. Green. Marine.
Because: dietary protein is invested in maintaining your body's structure. Your body reluctantly converts it into actual energy. In fact, the thermic effect of protein means you simply burn off 30% of every protein calorie as heat.
In other words: under physiological conditions — that is, consuming 1–2 g of protein per kg of body weight — we may lose body fat faster than during pure fasting!
This principle was already being leveraged in the 1970s under the term PSMF (Protein Sparing Modified Fast) to help severely obese individuals as quickly as possible. As a nice side effect, researchers also discovered that people could quickly discontinue diabetes medications.¹
Small problem: it's quite strict. Because this often means only 900–1500 calories — for a man with an energy expenditure of at least 3000 calories, that would be starvation mode pretty quickly.
So here's a crucial detail people often don't hear: you don't need to stick to this strictly for days on end.
Most of the time, this doesn't even feel like a diet or deprivation. This exact principle — the protein principle — forms the foundation of nearly every modern diet, no matter what you call it.
So please be smart and never again spend money on mysterious diet programs that also tell you to drink as many artificial sweetener-laden powders as possible.
The protein principle, when consistently applied, can change your life!
Of course, there are a few "tools" that are either necessary for fat metabolism to work at all — not a given! — or that increase energy and fat expenditure.
We've compiled a few well-known ones for you:
Tools are tools. They don't replace the foundation work you've learned about in this newsletter. In this context, however, they can be very useful.
