Interview · CrossFit Games 2026
Konrad "Koni" Kaufmann competes at the CrossFit Games in San Jose in July 2026 for the third time. Before leaving, he answered 10 questions for us: about pre-competition nutrition, the supplements he relies on, and what goes through his mind in the final hour before the start.

In one sentence: who are you and what does CrossFit mean to you?
My name is Konrad Kaufmann and CrossFit has been my main sport for 9 years. After surgery on both hips I stumbled onto this sport by accident, and it never let go of me. What fascinates me most is its versatility; it challenges me to get better every single day.
How long have you been competing at this level?
In 2021 I qualified for the CrossFit Games for the first time. After my return I unfortunately caught a severe case of Covid, and it took me around 3 years to get back to the same level of performance. Last year (2025) I managed the second qualification, and now in 2026 I qualified for the Games once again.
What does your nutrition look like in the 48 hours before a competition?
I try to eat the same way whenever possible; I often eat the same things. What matters to me: enough protein, carbohydrates and fibre. Before a competition I try to load up on carbohydrates, because at high heart rates our sport runs on very little fat oxidation; it essentially burns carbohydrates. If the glycogen stores are empty, you can forget it.
Which supplements are non-negotiable for you before a Games event, and why?
To reach enough protein I like to supplement with whey protein and EAAs. I also take creatine, L-glutamine and citrulline malate regularly.
Is there one product you would never compete without?
As I said, I like to supplement to raise my performance. But all of it is nothing without enough good sleep.
When exactly do you take your supplements: morning of, night before, during warm-up?
Most supplements I take in the morning. Protein before and after training.

Do you notice a real difference in performance when your supplementation is on point?
I'm now 66 years old and I can still gain strength. Without the right protein building blocks that's not possible.
What made you trust edubily's products over others?
edubily has an excellent reputation for clean ingredients. Just as I go organic with food whenever possible, I want only the best for my body when it comes to supplements. That's where edubily comes in.
What goes through your mind in the final hour before you compete?
I make sure to warm up very well and to memorise my strategy for the workout. Often just small mistakes can have a big impact on the placing. You have to have a clear picture of the performance you want to deliver.
What advice would you give someone who wants to perform better, in the gym or in life?
I would advise them to do something that comes easily to them and that they enjoy. That's usually the basis for the best performances. What matters then is staying consistent in training.
