Description

What exactly is Collagen?

Collagen powder is on everyone's lips today. And rightly so: with a 30% protein content, collagen is the most common protein in the human body, the most important structural component of bones, cartilage, teeth, tendons, ligaments and skin. Connective tissue consists of collagenous proteins, which is why blood vessels essentially consist of collagen.

Collagen is simultaneously the most exceptional protein in the body. Every third amino acid in the long amino acid chain is glycine. This is the smallest amino acid. It enables the collagen chain to form its coils. Another frequently recurring motif in the amino acid sequence of collagen is glycine-proline-hydroxyproline. This sequence guarantees the typical tensile strength and enormous load-bearing capacity of collagen.

The amount we typically obtain from food and synthesise ourselves is, according to recent biochemical calculations, insufficient to fully meet the body's needs, particularly regarding collagen synthesis.

The natural conclusion from our analysis is that quality of life can be improved through the intake of glycine as a dietary supplement in accordance with the calculated requirement (approximately 10 g daily) to ensure sufficient synthesis and renewal of collagen.

There are 28 different types of collagen known in the body. Type I and Type II collagen are the most important, as they are found in, for example, bones, teeth, fascia, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels and cartilage. At the same time, these are the collagen types that normally dominate collagen products. This applies to our product as well.

Why Collagen Hydrolysate?

In hydrolysis, which gives collagen hydrolysate its name, long and complex proteins are pre-digested and broken down into shorter protein chains, known as peptides. Collagen peptides have experienced quite a hype in recent years, as studies have repeatedly shown that they help the body stimulate the production of its own collagen.

Collagen peptides reach the blood and tissues via specific peptide transporters and stimulate the activity of collagen-building cells there, e.g. chondrocytes (cartilage), osteoblasts (bone) or fibroblasts (skin). A review (scientific summary) from 2019 concludes that

preliminary results are promising for short- and long-term use of oral collagen supplements for wound healing and skin ageing. Oral collagen supplements such as our collagen hydrolysate powder also increase skin elasticity, moisture content and collagen density of the skin.

In this regard, it seems to make no difference where the collagen comes from, as all collagenous proteins contain plenty of glycine, proline and hydroxyproline as peptides that exhibit corresponding bioactivity.

Buy Collagen Hydrolysate Powder From Grass-Fed Cattle

Which collagen powder should an interested customer buy? We have decided to add important micronutrients to our collagen powder in optimal quantities and bioavailability to effectively support the building of the body's own collagen. For this, enzymes are required that need, amongst other things, vitamin C (from the acerola cherry), manganese, zinc and copper to function. Furthermore, we add silicic acid as a silicon source to the product.

To set new quality standards, we source our collagen powder from Argentine grass-fed cattle under LIAF certification:

  • In Argentina, cattle are allowed to graze outdoors(!) year-round – these animals are accordingly truly grass-fed.
  • Industrial feed is not permitted and silage and similar alternatives are only fed in exceptional cases.
  • Animal products may not be fed.
  • Hormone treatments are prohibited.
  • Medicines may only be prescribed or administered by a veterinarian.

This ensures animal-appropriate husbandry and the product can meet very high quality standards. Incidentally: Our collagen hydrolysate powder is naturally Halal. The collagen powder in the Iced Tea flavour is sweetened only with steviol glycosides.
