Description
Why does my child need magnesium?
Magnesium is involved as a cofactor in over 600 reactions in the body and is involved in nearly all important biochemical reactions in the body.
For example, magnesium influences energy production and storage within cells, it regulates numerous enzymes in Vitamin D metabolism and relaxes smooth muscle as a physiological calcium antagonist – and thereby lowers vascular tone, for example.
Additionally, magnesium binds to the universal energy carrier ATP and thus makes it available to the many enzymes that need ATP to function.
Magnesium is also known as anti-stress mineral . In the nervous system, it has a relaxing effect by promoting the effect of the happiness hormone serotonin, strengthening the calming effect of the neurotransmitter GABA and inhibiting the excitatory effect of the neurotransmitter glutamate. (1)
Since children today also experience a lot of stress in our fast-paced world, whether through school pressure, settling into nursery, or too many leisure activities or media consumption, the nervous system benefits from an extra dose of magnesium.
Stress, whether perceived negatively or positively, also leads to increased magnesium excretion and thus promotes deficiency states.
The importance of magnesium is also evident from the many approved health claims:
-
Magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue
-
Magnesium contributes to electrolyte balance
-
Magnesium contributes to normal energy metabolism
-
Magnesium contributes to normal nervous system function
-
Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function
-
Magnesium contributes to normal protein synthesis
-
Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function
-
Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bone structure
-
Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth
-
Magnesium plays a role in the process of cell division
Magnesium appears to play a particular role in the development of strong bones in children. One study found that in children aged 4 to 8 years, it is not calcium but magnesium intake and absorption that correlates with bone mineralisation and bone density. (2)
The more magnesium, the stronger the bone.
What sets our Vitasauri® Kids Magnesium apart?
We use the optimally bioavailable trimagnesium citrate. In this form, three magnesium ions are bound to two molecules of citrate. Citrate is the salt of citric acid, which is found in every human cell because it is an intermediate product in energy production.
Trimagnesium citrate is a higher-quality compound than regular magnesium citrate, since the elemental magnesium content is 16% instead of only 8.5%. This ensures the body is optimally supplied with sufficient magnesium.
By using orange fruit powder, our Vitasauri® Kids Magnesium also has a pleasant fruity flavour.
