Description
This is the background to our vegan protein powder
More and more people want to avoid animal products. Even if this is often not recommendable, it is understandable that people seek plant-based alternatives and design their diet at least partially without animal products. After all, it is undoubtedly the case that the keeping and rearing of animals is often unacceptable.
The easiest way to replace animal products with plant-based ones is to focus increasingly on plant-based protein – because, as a rule, we eat animal products to meet our protein requirements.
Thanks to sophisticated composition and new raw materials, plant-based proteins can nowadays be composed in such a way that they have a similarly high biological value as proteins from animal sources.
In our view, it is important that no major experiments are undertaken. Proteins from novel foods for us can be very problematic. Therefore, plants should be used as the raw material basis that we have been using here for some time.
The following health claims are permitted for proteins:
- Protein contributes to an increase in muscle mass
- Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass
- Protein contributes to the maintenance of normal bones
- Protein is required for normal growth and development of bones in children.
Biological value: What is the Chemical Score (CS)?
With the chemical score (CS) or chemical index, the amino acid spectrum of a protein is assessed by comparing it with that of whole egg protein. Whole egg protein as reference has a chemical score of 100.
The CS is often also referred to as biological value.
We have mixed pea protein isolate and rice protein in such a way that the proportions of important amino acids are as balanced as possible so that we achieve a high chemical score. And indeed: our vegan protein has a chemical score of 144. This applies to the neutral flavour. Chocolate varies slightly as it still contains flavouring.
What sets our vegan protein powder apart
Our vegan protein powder is not only dairy-free but also maximally 'clean' – we even forego artificial sweeteners in this protein in our flavoured varieties and instead use stevia for sweetening.
In addition, we combine the two plant-based proteins from rice and pea in such a way that a very high biological value (BV) or very high Chemical Score (CS) is achieved, which is comparable with the values of conventional proteins from animal sources. Our vegan protein powder contains no less than 1.7 g Tryptophan per 100 g protein – a quality feature.
The plant-based protein powder has a very low carbohydrate content. For flavour and creaminess, a slightly higher fat content remains, which, however, stands out through a high proportion of mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Through extensive processing, the problematic lectins of the plants are deactivated.
