Description

Vitamin D Drops for Babies and Older Children – Healthy Development and Strong Immune System

Vitamin D is nowadays almost a fixture in every home medicine cabinet. This is good, because in winter up to 80 % of people have suboptimal levels of the sunshine vitamin (Rabenberg et al. 2015). This needs to be considered against the background that vitamin D is converted in the body into a hormone called calcitriol, which regulates an estimated 1,000 genes and thus has an incredibly far-reaching effect throughout the body. It is known, for example, that vitamin D regulates the immune system in this way, has important functions in bone metabolism and regulates enzymes in the nervous system (e.g. tryptophan hydroxylase). Of course, vitamin D has these effects in children, toddlers & babies too.

A deficiency or suboptimal supply is easily remedied with vitamin D supplements. We offer various forms of vitamin D. This product contains pure vitamin D, explicitly designed for 'the little ones' among us.

The following health claims are approved for vitamin D specifically regarding babies & children:

  • Vitamin D is needed for normal growth and development of bones in children.
  • Vitamin D contributes to normal immune system function in children

Vitamin D from Birth

For decades, babies in Central Europe have been receiving vitamin D from the second week of life as effective rickets prevention. The German Society for Nutrition recommends a daily intake of 400 IU for infants, whilst the Professional Association of Paediatricians and the Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine recommend 500 IU. For infants, as with adults, food and sunlight are the only two essential sources of vitamin D. Babies absorb very little vitamin D through food (breast milk) and should not be exposed to direct sunlight due to their sensitive skin. This places them in a group at risk of inadequate supply. Therefore, the recommended amount of 400 IU can only be achieved through supplementation. Infant formula ("bottle milk") is fortified with vitamin D in Germany – therefore, consultation with the midwife or paediatrician should be sought when giving vitamin D.

Why Vitamin D from edubily®?

In our vitamin D range, we use only a few raw materials: this product contains only cholecalciferol (vitamin D) and MCT oil based on coconut oil, with no additional additives. Easy to dose with the pipette. Contains 100 IU per drop and can therefore be dosed appropriately and optimally.
